Sometime back, I extolled the advantages of the WordPress format
. Then, after just updating and revamping our website, we found out that Google was placing greater emphasis on the WP format, and ranking these sites higher. So, like changing horses mid-stream, we began work on a new website based on WP.Another advantage of the format is its mobile-friendliness. While for some, this point may seem irrelevant, I must point out, that on the contrary it really is important. Why? Allow me to put forward a few points. First of all, more and more traffic is coming from mobile platforms, i.e., tablets and smartphones. In SEO work that we do, we’ve found that the percentage of searches on these platforms is steadily increasing. One client comes to mind, from single digits to double digits in a few months, a trend that is now around 30+ percent mark is quite incredible to observe.Secondly, and more importantly, if you are after good rankings is Google’s new approach. I quote from that post in Google’s Blog
Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.
So, eventually, as the indexing by Google continues, sites who are not mobile-friendly, will be punished. Owners of these sites will see their rankings fall. When this will happen, and how far the fall, I cannot really say. But, at jeopardy is all the hard work that’s gone into building the site, improving rankings and so on. These will probably be stuff that will just do down the gurgler.Painful, right? Well, what can you do? Do was Google wants.
